Step 1

We will use the Luma.ai scanner app. It uses the smartphone camera to take images from many different angles and combines them to create a 3D model

When you use the app, it takes many images one after the other as you walk around the object. It also records the position of the camera for each photo, so that it can use that information to build the model.

Step 2

The app creates a "volumetric function", which means that it stores a model created by layering images together that form a 3D volume.

It can do this either:
- from a live scan that you construct in the app while it tracks the phone's position.
- or using many images that you have already taken and upload in the app - in this case it can figure out the position of the phone by comparing the images to each other

Step 3

The app uses and AI neural network technique to build the 3D model. It creates data points in the volume, with a density and radiance.
