If you have a device that's compatible with Luma's live scanning, you can scan an object in the app. If your smartphone or tablet isn't compatible, skip to the next lesson for step by step instructions.
Prepare the object to be scanned. Position it on a surface with plenty of space for you to walk around. The guide provides images to help you with this process:
Open the Luma.ai app and click the button for a new capture.
Use the app to help you step through each stage. Take note that you will have to set up the bounding box first, then start rotating around the object to scan.
When ready, the app will show guides to follow as you rotate. It will show 3 different loops to use as guides.
The app will show shadow phone positions to help you position your device as you rotate around the object.
It will take a while to get used to the correct position to hold your device. Try to follow the position of the overlay images on the app.
Keep rotating steadily around the object as each loop fills in. If you go to fast or are too close, the app will show you warnings to correct.
When you have finished scanning, the app will allow you to upload the model to it's servers. Keep the app open while it uploads.
Luma will then process your model using its AI program to create a full 3D representation of the object.
You can close the app while it processes your model.
Congratulations! You have completed your first 3D scan!
