Find Digital Media

Search for the media you need to turn your ideas into reality!

Step 1

To create your design, you will need digital media (sounds and images). Find the images first. You need:

  • A background image (300 x 300 pixels)
  • A sprite (50 x 50 pixels)

There are two ways you can find images: use the media gallery on your laptop, or use the internet to do a search for an image that you like.

Step 2

Using the media gallery:

Look for an image in the media gallery on your laptop which you can find here: Desktop / Media Library.

Step 3

Using the internet:

Do a search in Google images and save the image to the Downloads folder on the laptop.

Step 4

Tips:

Background image: You'll get the best results if the size of the image is close to the size of the game canvas. The canvas will be a square (300 x 300 pixels). You can filter Google image search results by size: do a search in Google images, go to Tools and change size to 300 x 300 pixels.

Sprite: You will get the best results if you pick a very simple image for your sprite. You will shrink the sprite image later to 50 x 50 pixels. Trying including words like “icon”, “clipart”, “cartoon” and “character” in your Google search to find a good sprite.

Step 5

Find the sounds. You need:

  • A sound that plays when the player catches the sprite
  • A sound that plays when the game ends

There are two ways you can find sounds: use the media gallery on your laptop, or use the internet to do a search for a sound that you like.

Step 6

Using the media gallery:

Look for a sound in the media gallery on your laptop which you can find here: Desktop / Media Library. Listen to the sounds and pick one you like.

Step 7

Using the internet:

Go to soundbible.com/free-sound-effects-1.html. Search for sounds in the search bar on the right hand side of the page. Listen to the sounds and pick one you like. Save the sound to the Downloads folder on the laptop: click on the Audio File Title and then click on the mp3 icon on the next screen.

Step 8

That's all the digital media you need to create your game - let's go!
