Name your project something memorable. TinkerCAD likes to give projects funny names but, so you remember it, change yours.
The name is in the top-right corner.
Click on the name box and make sure to give your file a memorable name including your initials to identify it later.
Time to save your hard work!
Select the emoji you’d like to 3D print, and then press the Export button in the top-right corner.
When you click the Export button, a separate menu will appear.
You will be given the choice to export as .STL or as a .OBJ file. Please select .STL. These are different file types and both are suitable for 3D printing.
.STL files map the surface of a 3D object and save it as a polygon mesh. The resolution of the mesh can affect the quality of the surface of the 3D print.
.OBJ files can store more information on the 3D object and are more suitable for example for files printed using multiple colours.
Your file will download automatically. Make sure to save it onto your desktop and your course facilitators will soon pass round a USB key for the 3D printing stage in the next unit.
