In this lesson, you are going to sew the top seam of each of your pattern pieces.
Take pattern piece A and fold along one of the seam lines on the short edge. You want to fold the right side over the wrong side of the fabric. Use a few pins to hold the fabric in place.
(Hint: when you pin fabric, you should place the pins perpendicular to the line you are sewing with the head of the pin in the seam allowance. This makes it easier to remove the pins as you sew.)
Use the sewing machine to sew a straight line 5mm from the folded edge of your fabric.
As you get to each pin, remove them before they reach the presser foot. If pins are not removed in time, they may get hit by the sewing needle, which could bend or break, possibly causing injury.
Take care to start and finish off your sewing line properly at the start and end using the reverse button.
Use a pair of scissors to carefully trim your seam close to the sewing line.
Be very careful not to cut too close to the stitching!
Trimming seams is important to make sure the final product is neat and tidy.
Repeat steps 1-3 with your remaining pattern pieces.
