Learn how to create a new design in VCarve Pro and define your material settings.
Step 1
Find the VCarve Pro icon on the desktop and double-click to open the software. Once opened, go to the Startup Tasks in the left hand menu and select Create a New File.
Step 2
You will now be prompted to complete the Job Setup dialogue box and create your material settings.
All VCarve files use the material settings as the starting point of any design, so it is important to know whether the file you are creating will be cut out of wood, foam, wax or plastic and what the accurate dimensions are for the piece of material you will be using.
For this exercise, we will be using blocks of Necuron Foam (a type of high density machining foam often used in rapid prototyping to demonstrate an idea or concept). The dimensions of the block are 300mm x 300mm x 25mm.
Step 3
Set your Job Type as single-sided, then enter your job size (size of your piece of material) as width 300mm, height 300mm and depth as 25mm. Double-check that your units are set to mm.
You will then be asked to set your Z Zero Position (starting point for the cutter on the Z axis), always set it to material surface. For your XY Datum Position (Origin starting point for the cutter on the XY axis), always set it to bottom left corner.
Leave the modelling resolution as standard and select your choice of material finish in the Appearance menu for the toolpath previews.
Select Ok to complete your settings. You design document is now set to the size of your material.
