Material settings

Practice defining your material settings in VCarve Pro in preparation for importing 3D model.

Step 1

Select the VCarve Pro icon on your desktop and choose Create a New File.

Step 2

When setting up a file for 3D milling, it is always important to know before you start what material you will be milling it out of. In this exercise, we will be setting up our file for a block of 300mm x 300mm x 25mm necuron foam.

Step 3

Set your Job Type as single-sided, then enter your job size (size of your piece of material) as width 300mm, height 300mm and depth as 25mm. Double-check that your units are set to mm.
You will then be asked to set your Z Zero Position (starting point for the cutter on the Z axis), always set it to material surface. For your XY Datum Position (Origin starting point for the cutter on the XY axis), always set it to bottom left corner.
Leave the modelling resolution as standard and select your choice of material finish in the Appearance menu for the toolpath previews.

Select Ok to complete your settings. You design document is now set to the size of your material.
